BUENOS AIRES (Diario ARMENIA).- Under the slogan “Two 24, one cause” the Buenos Aires branch of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) along with the Armenian Community of Argentina participated in the Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice on 24 March.
Each year, many organizations rally to Plaza de Mayo to “remember the coup d'état of 1976 that brought the military government into power and led to 7 years of cruel dictatorship in Argentina”. The “National Reorganization Process” or Dirty War, left 30.000 “desaparecidos”, people that disappeared under the military dictatorship. AYF has always supported the seek for justice and embraced the cause as its own. “There is only one way to curb the effects of genocide and prevent its repetition: the active exercise of the Memory”, said AYF South America in a statement.
The armenian activists distributed flyers that compared Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with General Jorge Rafael Videla, who, "like the Turkish authorities, continues denying that there was a systematic state plan to eliminate a part of the population”. In Plaza de Mayo, where the main event was held, “Madres y Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo” focused on exposing the role of civil and economic groups who supported the militaries.
